Your thoughts about customer services

本帖最後由 zuesel 於 2009-5-5 16:48 編輯

I've had many countless poor experience with customer service received. They can be from not given change back, forced on tipping, dirty food, broken promises....etc.

I often ask myself why do most of them (99% of the time) are Chinese related?
- Is it because I give business mostly to Chinese = more chances of receiveing bad services?
- Is it because I am impolite to begin with to cause negative reactions? But I say thank you and please to servers, I even say sorry when my table has taken longer to decide on the menu; yet, why do I feel that they are doing me a favor when I give them the business?
- Are customers in general very mean therefore, provoked a culture of poor service thus, becomes a vicious circle?
- Do their bosses treat them bad, give them low pay so they don't really care and take it out on us?
- Does it have to do with inadequet education?

Maybe I am very old school. I remember ever since kindergarden in HK, we were taught "juen si jong doe" - Respect, politeness, blah blah blah where as Western schooling actually don't teach that! But how come the effect is in reverse?

I am disappointed. I don't want to believe but it just seems it's always the Chinese businesses that I and people around me receive poor treatment. Why? Why? Why? It's so sad that I feel I am being treated better by other races then by people my own race!

Just open discussion. I really need to get a load off my chest...

Agree with LYKs above.
Tips should be rewarded upon merit only.
Want it? Earn it.

I think the customer themselves have to behave too.
It's a give and take situation sometimes I find.
If the customer is giving you a tough time, it is very tough to suck it up and deliver same quality of service. A very very professional customer service rep would be able to though. THOSE REP reallllllllllllllllllly deserves acknowledgment.....tips.....compliment....customer coming back again

"""Actually there are many places in Canada still offer excellent customer service such as... Costco."""

lucky you, i never receive any service in costco.  especially the one who hands out coupon at the entrance.  most of the time i need to take the coupons off his hands, not he hands the coupons to me.

Honestly according to my personal POV, I don't think any customer should deserve "negative" service from the service industry. Even we go to a dollar shop and we're only paying one dollar, a fairly "neutral" service should be given (of course I won't expect outstandingly good to excellent service!). Since we're the one who is paying money for their products as well as service, do anyone really think they should be rude to us all because of we're paying just a little money? (then they shouldn't run a "dollar shop" but a "million dollar shop") Of course, the higher their price is (that means the more money we have to pay) the better the product and service we'll expect.

i got to calgary 3x /yr. my whole family is there. i came fr. calgary myself. I used to live up in Ft.Mc for 10 yrs and visit Edmonton often. Yeah food is bad and service is not something to be proud of either in the Chinese operated businesses. I am just frustrated that I seldom run into bad experience with non-chinese businesses. I am more than happy to pay 15%+tips when they rightfully deserve it. But i guess most of us still give chinese waiters at least 10% of total bill (on top of tax too) so they take it for granted!

I guess .. just by comparison ..   that is why I go Vancouver 2-3 times a year .. just to eat!

May be compare to HK ..  service and food in Vanvouver isn't that great, same as when compare HK to Japan or Thailand etc ..  Service isn't as good ...

He he ..  you should make a trip to Calgary ..  got for dim sum..  wait for 1 hr ..  sit for 2-3 yr .. still with half empty stomach .. and when you pay ..  you will also DROP YOUR MOUTH ..

In my opinion. Tips=gratuity = greatful of your service. Why do servers think they deserve it when they didn't provide good service?

Also, we have to change our thinking that if the items are not expensive, we deserve bad service lor.

Actually there are many places in Canada still offer excellent customer service such as high end restaurants (of course you pay much tips) and Costco.  I actually hardly encounter people giving back the wrong changes.

I did once have the waitress force me to give tips but that was more than 15 years ago in a Japanese restaurant.  Their service was bad so I left less than 10% of tips and since it's a buffet so I thought it was okay.  Just before I left the restaurant, one of the waitress rushed to me and forced me to leave more tips.  I was pissed off and never went back.

The service in food court of Crystal Mall varies too.  I found the service of the Taiwanese restaurant is not pretty good while there are un-named others bad.  It is just the way the cashier treated the customers (never smiled...)

I remembered while I was in Taiwan, whenever you walked into a store (including 7-11), they would always greet you "welcome".  It gave the customers a warm feeling.  I tried to say hi to whoever passed my restaurant and even they did not buy anything but just took a peek of the food, I would give them a "thank you".
