A cancer-causing dioxin which contaminated German eggs and was found in cakes and quiches sold in Britain has now been discovered in meat.
A high concentration of poison has been found in meat in Germany after it emerged farm animals were given contaminated feed, Germany's Agriculture Ministry admitted. Three chickens - out of 15 samples of chicken, turkey and pork meat - showed a concentration double the legal limit.
Officials say it does not pose a risk to humans but British stores have already stripped shelves of contaminated egg products. The origin of the problem has been traced to a distributor in the northern Schleswig Holstein state. |
