T-bone as my X'mas gift

Aiya, what a boxing day today.  Got into an accident while driving my brother's car to pick him up from the airport.  ****.

The old guy ran the stop sign and T-bone our car badly.  My car spin 180 and endup hitting another car on the opposite lane before we came to a full stop.  So glad that my mom & dad who sat at that side of the car only had minor injury.  Spend the whole afternoon at the emergency room.

Not sure what ICBC is going to say.  Here is a snapshot of the passenger side after the accident.  Front passenger door and side mirror was hit, it could still be opened with a bit of force.  Rear passenger door's window was smashed, rear door can't even open, the upper window frame had a finger gap.  Rear quarter panel has damage around the wheel arch.  Also the back bumper was cracked when hitting the car on the opposite lane.  Wheels seem to be still okay and drivable.

What you think the repair cost will be?  I hope they would total it (since it already had other problems) but I doubt they will.

they probably have no luck with used parts, with the accident rate over the winter period, probably why they took so long too...

just bring it to the body shop, ur old car they first estimated $49xx, joe got it up to $11k and it was an instant write off...

but then that's a front end with a lot of misc parts they probably forgot to include...

some update and see what you think.

ICBC called my brother back eventually.  They estimated to be a $6k repair.  My brother asked about up to which point ICBC would consider a write off.  The adjuster said they estimated the car worth $11k at the moment and he said they wouldn't consider a write off unit the repair cost is up to $10.5k.

That seems to be different from what I heard from people.

Dude, don't feel bad, it's not your fault that someone else crash into you.

Thanks everyone for the kind words and info.

Similar to what I thought la.  $3-4k repair since there isn't any suspension damage.  Just like one of the police said that it was dramatic (3 cars accident with a spin) but it isn't too bad.  Another police just kept saying Camry is a good car.  I am glad that the door had a good design and protected us good.  The impact location was higher because of the bigger truck (remind me how much I hate SUV and pickup truck because of the bigger damage it caused on accident).

All after all, it could be worse.  I am happy that my family is okay still.  I shouldn't worry too much on the car.  Zuesel wasn't in the car which is another thing that I'm glad.  She had experienced too many car accidents below and I hate to see her got scared for a single more time.

Just feel bad that I crashed my brother's car and he can't go anywhere now.    Need to make good use of the "Loss of use" claim now.  I hope ICBC wouldn't have too much cases after all the snow and holiday, but again I don't think so.

unfortunately 1/4 panel / b-pilliar and rocker panel etc will be involving cutting and welding, one has to spend the time to pull it out as close as possible to original then start cutting and welding; if repair is done probably there is not much of a problem afterwards (now it's all depends where the car is going to be repaired)...

i would guess the camry would still worth $5k to $7k at least (by just looking at black book), so which means icbc will have more than enough room to repair the car without writting it off (they dun go for black book value, they go for market value)...

yet recently market value for most car has dropped a lot, now it really depends on how things is going to be settled...

I don't envy the repairer. Especially trying to pull things out. Even if it's fixed, I'd say it's time for a non-damaged car. I'd say most of the rear quarter will be cut out and re-welded back on. There's no way someone is going to pull out the damage on the wheel arch area.

Then considering how much those Camrys are worth nowadays.. it'd be very close to being written off I would think.. unless labour is cheap and/or Camry are still holding their value as just transport.

b2l2: i dun really think the damage is big enough for total loss, most likely icbc is going to pick up two used doors and replace the rocker panel with b pillar....looks like about $3k damage to me, but it could be a lot more worse after it's opened up...

make sure u report any sort of discomfort to icbc and started filing a claim for injury, with this kinda injury from a pick up, u will feel sth years down the road if it's not taken good care of...

lucky u and ur parents were "ok", at least it didn't happen when the road was all covered by snow / ice; at least the truck could have slowed down a little and didn't cause much cabin damage (nor suspension damage, from the pix)...

keep me updated for any help, hopefully u and ur parents will be recovered soon, got the claim settled and car repaired / replaced as the way your want...

I looked at the roof too but didn't notice any buckling.  Just the top of rear passenger door bent outward and now had a 1/2" gap there.

I felt okay with only a slightly burst knee cap (hitting the steering wheel I guess).  My mom said okay to the medical person after the accident.  But after we went home she felt growing pain + soreness at rib cage and the side muscle.  So we insisted to bring her into emergency room (4 hours of boring waiting time but it worths to make sure she was okay).  Will keep an eye on everything since I know it may takes a day or two before it shows up.  Thanks for all the advice.

Yes, it is a Camry CE.  2000 or maybe 2001, I forgot.
