Venetian Resort - Macau

Great! I was there when he's still building it! Now that's the "end"!

For those who stay at luxury hotels, how much time do you have to stay at the hotel/resort to justify the cost?  I always spend less than 10 hours (8 of which used for sleeping) at a hotel so I never see the need to go beyond the basic bed & breakfast.

But of course, if your budget is totally unlimited, then it's always better to go for the best.

Venetian Macau doesn't cost that much...$880+Tax (Macau $) per night in low season. Same price as I stay in Portland Holiday Inn Express.

Stay in venetian is nice...room is larger, don't need to spend much time as I go around the hotel mall...

If it's $880 only then of course there's no decision to be made.  But sometimes even if it's just $40 per night, you need to wonder whether you really want to spend $40 more just for a bigger room.

In vacation, you probably spent most of your energy in sightseeing (if that's the purpose), and after a day of walking/sightseeing, don't you want a good rest?
A decent hotel (doesn't have to be luxury) gets u a bigger room, cleaner environment, and perhaps better location so you save TIME in your trip. I think that would justify the cost of the hotel.

One time in Oregon, I pick a cheaper hotel (closer to the outlet) w/o looking much review. The difference is about $30US but  I SWEAR I won't do it again.

I made the same mistake years ago in Portland too... This one is near the coast but not at one of the nicer seaside location... It's freaky and dark even with all the lights turned on!!!
NEVER do that again.

I definitely look at the location first, since you have little time when you travel.
But better sleep in a bigger room? I can't say that for sure.  Better sleep in a quieter room for sure, but a holiday inn or a venetian on the same block would not make any difference to my quality of sleep

In my last trip I stayed at Ritz Carlton then followed by Travelodge.  The only visible difference to me was the bathroom.  It was definitely more enjoyable to use the bathroom at Ritz, but then again that alone didn't justify the cost for me.
