Costco Fries in poisonous containers

本帖最後由 zuesel 於 2011-4-19 21:03 編輯

Went to Costco last week. Didn't even notice the fries melt right through the foam contain that they use until we almost finished! What idiots!

I showed it to the kitchen staff:

They just shrug: "we know and told the mgmt but they won't do anything about it and there's nothing we can do!".

I then took it to customer service...

Rep #1: "I've been trying to tell them years ago but they didn't change anything."
Rep #2: "You should fill out a comment card...".
Me: "I read the comment bulletin board, you guys post ONLY the good comments.".
Rep #2: "it's true, we only post good ones but they do get read."

So I filled out a card stating if something isn’t done, I’ll be posting this on the net and with my phone number on it.

A manager called me back the same night...
Me: “...If the staff practice proper food handling ie: wear hairnets, use gloves, etc, isn’t it common sense not to use foam containers? No one use them anymore years ago! Not even MacDonalds!”
Mgmr: “That’s strange...we’ve been using this type of container for years...the supplier are supposed to have a special coating on them...I’ll call them tomorrow...”
**Scratching head**What? Some kind of spray on the foam containers?
Me: “Why not use paper? And why don’t you see for yourself?”
Mgmr: “Well, the staff are supposed to wait for the fries to cool for a bit first...”
Me: “These are excuses! You would end up with more complains with customers waiting for food. Besides, how do you gage the safe temperature for the foam containers? With a timer?”
Mgmr: “...I’ll make some calls and will call you back tomorrow...”

Next day...

Me: “Well, did you see for yourself?”
Mgmr: “....urrrrr.....yeah, I do...”
Mgmr: “I called our supplier and my mgmr and they are aware of this...”

Me: “well?”
Mgmr: “Well, they are aware and we are a big company...long process for changes to happen....”
Me: “Obviously, they don’t see this as any urgent matter...not urgent enough to be action on immediately.”
Mgmr: “Will call you back once I hear something...and you can get credit for an order of fries.”
**I laughed**

Well, it’s been a week and I haven’t heard anything from him. And I don’t think I should be playing along with Costco’s nonchalant attitude. Therefore, I’m posting to warn others! Especially if you get poutine, you won't even see the holes coz the gravy will be covering them!

Report to Health Canada?

You know.. many Chinese food court stalls still uses this... they melt when the food is in there.

Well.. it's a big company... so the message will take forever to get up there and probably lost in the process.

Rather than escalate at the store level, you might as well go all the way up to corporate and it is a lot more effective there.

For instant response: get someone ate their food and got sick/poisonous and send to hospital and get the media to report on TV and paper! They would use alternative or fold down the next day! LOL

Because kitchen staff is not suppose to work outside of kitchen. What you are seeing is some managers allow the staff to do that.
