Electricals: Changing from old Stacked Washer/Dryer Combo to Front Loaders

As title. I checked and there is both a 220V and a 120V outlet at the back. So I can use the 220V for the new Dryer and the 120V for the new Washer. However when I went to check the breaker to make sure that the 120V outlet is a dedicated circuit, I got this:





So there's a label at location 19 saying "Auto Washer Plug". However when I look at the breaker panel itself, 17 and 19 are tied together to the same physical breaker. I opened the breaker cover up and I see one red wire and one black wire going into this wider breaker. Doesn't this mean that it's 220V going out? Do I need to hire an electrician to split the 2 circuits up into 2 different breakers? Please advise. Thanks!

Since the new appliances are more energy efficient, it should be just a simple plug and play when you get the new appliances if they are identical.

I don't think you will be running both washer and dryer at the same time, and you will just blow the breaker in the worst case!

As far as my understanding goes, the Dryer goes to the 220V outlet that was used for the old stacker. The 110V have never been used before. So that's why I am trying to find out whether it's on a dedicated circuit and safe for the Washer's use.

for the dryer, there is a 30A on 5&7, (there is a BIG plug for dryer)

for washer, there is a 15A on 19 (there should be a 110v socket --very near to the BIG plug)
and share 17 for light and plug (i think it is lights and plugs in same area)
with 1 breaker, if any problem, it will switch off all power to that area. (it is nothing to do with dryer).

the black is +110v.
the red wire is -110V,
in this circuit, washer (black) with the white wire will form 110v.
for light and plug (red) with the white wire will form 110v too.

see the heat on 5 & 7, it is black and white, on a 220 breaker, it formed 220v. (same as your range)

it looks good to me.  simply plug the washer to the 110V standard socket., and the dryer to the 220 to the BIG round socket.

So I guess the only downside with the current configuration is that if the Lights/Plug trips, it will stop the Washer too. Or if the Washer trips, the Light and Plugs will go out too?

So ideally this gets split into 2 breakers. But as it is, it should still be safe to use? Thanks!

it is no need to split two breakers,
i will keep it like that and use it.

Satil is correct in general ..  until he mentioned that white wire....

The white wire is neutral. Connecting the white wire to the power bus is going to short the circuit. I am sure this panel is not following the electrical code. The white Neutral must be an the same potential/phase with RED wire.

I see someone tried to save money by using the bigger gauge BLK/WHT wire... but.. still ...if some repairman didn't know this white is not neutral and wire up a new receptacle. You might have a 220V output on a 110v output

NO, when there is RED and WHITE.
the WHITE is 0v and RED is -110v.

it still form 110v different.

but in that circuit, WHITE is live and RED is neutral/return. (thats y they use RED to id it)

other lights and plugs in left hand side of the breaker box use same method.

it is normal.

um.. you think about it...

the breakers show all the black ones connect to one of the H1 bus.
as all the "in-pair" breakers are identical, that means the red whites above and the white are on the same bus (H2).

I am not saying any danger here. I saw people save money use white wire...

But I just want to make it clear, this is not complaint with the Canadian electrical code.
