Hi, everybody, I have applied for immigration to Canada this year.
I am working as emergency specialist in Hong Kong now
I searched the internet and read through all the regulations about the International Medical Graduate who has to pass their MCCEE and MCCQE before they can get a internship inside the hospital.
I wonder whether it is difficult to get a similar job or family doctor in Canada (Vancouver or Burnaby)
Is doctor still a demanding job in Canada?
Any information / personal experience provided by all of you?

i have heard that even for new medical graduates in BC, not all of them are able to stay in BC (of course it also depends on the specialty)...

for international doctors like youm  there is a IMG-BC program, providing 12 family medicine residency spots and 6 spots in other specialties...you can have a look here

and at the same time you can go through CaRMS and compete with other fresh medical graduates across canada for residency spots (so i guess you have an advantage here....)

and YES bring us more family doctors...a lot of family doctors here are so busy that they are not able to take new patients anymore...you should be able to make a pretty decent income as well after you finish your residency (but of course it will be less compared to other specialities)

The main worry is the tough competition with other fresh medical graduates across canada for residency post. Most of the hospitals, I searched from internet, reluctant to take over IMG doctor, for protection of their own Canadian doctors.

thats very true...thats why the IMG-BC program exists here...making sure that some IMGs can get a spot...

If you are not prepared to be in exile for at least 2-3 years in rural area.... u may as well forget about getting the residency.  Did u search on the net to see how many doctors are seeking intership in Canada?

Not trying to discourage you..... but u should really do ur homework

At least up to five figures of IMG doctors are still waiting for the residency. I don't know whether the information from the web is updated or not, but it is, as you mentioned. really discouraging!
So actually, according to all of you people, is doctor still demanding or actually overcrowding?
It seems to me the government policy is contradicted to the actual situation, isn't it?

yea basically the society needs more doctors...but the government does not have enough money to hire them

I know a Russian doctor that came here for 3 years now.. not yet able to find a residency. He went back to school and become a ultrasound technician and said he can only keep trying.. but never know when he'll be able to get it..

but i guess....everywhere is the same...
its hard for IMGs to come to canada to find a job....it is equally hard for medical graduates from here (or other parts of the world) to pass the LMCHK examinations and get housemanships....
