Since I don’t know what exactly you are interested in, I would recommend the following locations in general.

1.        南京路
a.        南京東路步行街 (the section close to 外灘_ is just for tourist and I have never shopped there. However, you will reach 人民廣場 at the other end of the 步行街 and there is 來福士廣場 which you can take a look.)
b.        南京西路 have some malls worth to take a look such as 梅隆鎮廣場, 恆隆廣場 and 中信泰富. These are ones of the most well known luxury malls in Shanghai.
2.        徐家匯 (a well known business/shopping district)
3.        城隍廟 (one of the most well known historic places which tourists will definitely go to).  
4.        淮海路 (there are many shops/malls the local people will go to)
5.        長樂路 (there are many small interesting boutiques)

I would recommend the following places for night scenery.
1.        外灘 (lighting turns off at 10:00 p.m.)
2.        南京東路步行街 (shops and lighting turns off at 10:00 p.m.)
3.        新天地 (Shanghai’s 蘭桂芳)

城隍廟你去看看逛逛食食小吃OK﹐但買野要小心﹐好多 MARK UP 架。。。

新天地值得去﹐都幾多野看﹐又可以感受一下上海年輕人的生活﹐好 YUPPY 似的。。。

南京路就係買手信﹐但聽導遊講﹐那是外地人買東西的地方﹐她建議去淮海路﹐因為那兒的東西較為合算﹐是當地人 SHOPPING 的地方。

Rule of thum - "Never pay more than 50% of asking price". 30-40% is about right. Sometimes 20% is possible.

你的方法都差不多。。。但我發覺要抱著 “你真的唔買呢件野都無乜所謂”的心態先至 WORK﹐試過幾次﹐我真係覺得貴要走了﹐店主就會就範。。。我猜呢D野要多練習的﹐嘻嘻。。。

These tactics only work at small shops and at places like Beijing's 秀水街. When you are shopping at big shopping malls, you can't really bargain.
