You can read more from the link above. Usually mat leave are unpaid and they get support from EI. If the employer agrees to pay for the salary anyways, that's a different story.

well, even a man can take mat leave. it's just how many weeks in total for BOTH the husband and wife.  i.e. if the husband takes 12 weeks, then the wife can have 40 weeks, if i'm not mistaken.

Read the link posted above if you need more details.

The maternity leave is only for the birth mother.  There is no way to "transfer" that.  For the birth father, one could apply for parental leave.

both partners can take mat leave in total of 1 year.  if one girl is taking 30 weeks, another girl can take the rest of 22 weeks.  same as husband & wife.  if the wife takes 30 weeks, the husband can take the rest of 22 weeks.  so there is no additional benefit for lesbian.
i don't think anyone is stupid enough to claim s/he is the partner of a child in order just share some mat. leave, because that person may catch on child support payment in the future.

i don't think they are talking about mat. leave here, it more sounds like family leave.  companies have different policies about family leave.

i don't think the school is 歧視 her, but it is a  天主教 school.  lesbian is not accepted by the religion.
