Could you also recommend a doctor if I choose women hospital? I have one from my family doctor, but I was told she is very busy and her clinic location is not convenient to me.

    For giving birth, you have to get your family doctor referral to an OB/Gyn doctor. (unless your family doctor does delivery as well). Then depending on which hospital that OB/Gyn doctor is linked to. Then the patient goes there to give birth.

Burnaby host. seems to be very dirty.  Don't go there.
Women's is a lot better.  Also next to Women's is Children Hosp.  In case if anything happens, your children will have best care anywhere.

My family + my wifey all unanimously agreed that St. Pauls one of the best by far, and for delivery, I would go with St. Pauls w/o hesitation.

@OP:

You must have been here not that long ago (and don't know the rules here), for your general practitioner (GP, aka "regular family doctor") does not do deliveries nor would he/she assigns/picks hospitals for you. They(GP) can only refer you to a specialist (in this case, it will be an OBGYN that will oversee your pregnancy process, etc. and will deliver the baby for you.) and then go from there.

Each OBGYN is inherently assigned to a specific hospital so you have to go with whichever your OBGYN is assigned to, and cannot change hospital at your own free will.

This is not car/clothing shopping you know, everything has it's rules to abide by.

    The facilities are not that "old" to be honest with you, and compared to my sis in-law's delivery in Womens: we got the whole room to ourselves (bigger/better facilities than W&C) and no rush at all.

IMHO if I'm to rate between W&C and St. Pauls, I'd give W&C 7out of 10, where as St. Pauls 8.5 out of 10. They also have some of the best/most senior specialists (OBGYN, brain surgeon, etc.) on site/residence than that of W&C.

If you have given birthing in women hospital, could you tell me your specialist (OBGYN)'s information?

    I have been to St Paul's once for my dad's minor surgery. I don't think the facility is old but I read some online review commenting dated facility. But people do mention very good delivery service there.

I think the biggest problem with St Pauls is the traffic concern. During "rush" hour, it's very hard to get there...(if it's last Friday of the month all the biker takes the whole north bound of Burrard bridge...)
Woman hospital is closer (for me) and easier to get there.

除左 traffic conern, 好難揾車位, St. Paul 個 underground parking 永遠都係 full, 周圍啲 parking都唔容易揾位!   Not just rush hour, even at 8 am

That's right. So imaging the wife is in labour and then stuck in traffic....that would be pretty bad!

    just like brain surgeons, eye specialists (got my referrals through my regular GP), you have to be referred by your GP and this is the standard rule here. If your GP doesn't refer to you a OBGYN, then your GP has a problem and not yours.

Go find another GP and get the referral.

Also: OBGYN is one of the specialists where they are not "open" to public signing on for programs and has to be done by referral only.

Never any issues if you know that area well. I' ve been working in dwntwn area for over a decade and never had any issues with parking @ St. Pauls. Even in urgent situations such as our 2nd child (which from contractions to delivery in less than 5.5hrs), I was able to find parking (and lots of them) in that area, even in St. Paul's underground parkade where a direct elevator (afterhours access only) is avail.

Yes, St. Paul may seem a bit "dated" but they got a significant funding to improve their facilities and gradual replacements of equipments. Best of all: just like VGH: they have the best doctors on-residence in Western Canada.

I'd be less inclined to go to Royal Columbia or so in this case.
