i think the biggest issue here..is that she actually HIT the OP's mom..
whether or not it was a little pat or a big slap, she still touched her physically..and also made racial comments

this is unacceptable
also, what the OP could do is not SUE, but to report the incident to the police

this is not a private case, so why would the OP have to pay for lawyers? this is a CRIMINAL case and the police/courts should take care of it..whether it is just a warning for the old lady or it is escalates into court

i wouldn't suggest her to sue the old lady directly..but report it and let the police know that this woman is going around, hitting people and saying nasty comments

then why 大 her for nothing?
if so, why is the slap so important?
are you gonna get hurt by a granny slapping you?
if your car is only 花左bumper, then why bother going to ICBC?
do you think it's worth it to pay the deductable?

if everything is so minor, then why bother
then why is this incident an issue sin? just blow water, everything's so minor, just let it go lor

If my cellphone has voice recording feature, I will use it to record what she said.  Even your cellphone doesn't have this feature, just pull it out and tell her that you're going to record it.  Tell her that this will be the evident for coming court case.

If it's not your fault, you don't need to pay the dedectible.

Verbal racist comment is not much different than swearing right in front of you...so that happens all the time...but hitting your hand, you can hold her on the spot and call 911 to scare the pants off her!

Yes very very ma fan!!!  I my car just got vandalised too!!!!

Not really asking for a case...the main purpose of calling 911 is to scare the old lady and waste her (and your ) time...but if you're in a hurry then forget it la of course...

Considering the fact that i didn't have a witness or didn't have a recording device on hand, i agree that it's kind of pointless reporting it to the police.  But i will report to the ICBC about this.  The thing i'm angry about this incident is not the fact that my bumper got scratched a little, but the fact that the old woman was being so rude and racist.
