If it is people photography, tell the boss to spend a $100 to get a 50mm 1.8.  Find a location with good light.  Problem solved.

At ISO 100,  all modern Dslr are pretty much the same, given you have control over where/when you can shoot lor.

You can do volunteer work for charity or community organizations for free because they don't actually make monies. Ask yourself if you would do free work for any commercial company for they use your work and equipment to make monies. To me, on top of the camera equipment I am going to use, my time and labor and talent is being used too, I don't think I should deserve nothing, especially talking in commercial industry. That means, even I only use my iphone to shoot, I should still get a pay. Make sense?

AAC is getting paid.  He/she is getting a salary.  You can argue it's not part of the original responsibilities, but hey this happens to everyone where we just get work that we didn't really expect to do.

If AAC doesn't like it he/she can always find another job.

Yeah, since you get paid, your lovely boss may ask you to feed his meter, buy him coffee, pick his kids up at kindergarten, and clean his toilet bowl at home. If you are ok with that, of course there is nothing wrong.

Job description changes all the time. My guess is that AAC doesn't mind taking the pictures since that can easily be considered as part of his work. The focus of his question is whether he should volunteer his own equipment, and if so, whether he should charge for it.

If my current wage is a lot higher than the pantry coffee brewer, a 保母車 driver, and a janitor, I wouldn't mind doing any of those services for my boss ga~

oh ya
buying coffee is a lot easier than doing the stuff i am doing
so i would love to do that for the same salary
