I have AAA/CAA Plus for years, so that I can get tow service with enough miles covered in case of an emergency. But it depends on how often you travel away from home.
We do use their service average once a year.
1 day trip.. man.. nowhere else you can go except Seattle. That's it. First you can't go to a lot of places.. Forget about those museum. You will spend so much time there and kinda boring.
no need to join tour for a 1 day trip. waste of money. and Seattle.. one day is enough.
Preparation: Get a GPS. Yes.. if you don't go to Seattle that often, you need one and update the map. The exit near Downtown is kinda messy.
Itinerary:
- The night b4, sleep well, buy some red bull and drinks. fill up some gas.
- Wake up in the morning, get a bun. and go. Bring your passport
- Then just drive and pass Peace Arch
- Around 1.5 hrs later, you should be in Tunalip. Stop by there, go have Buffet lunch in the Casino, and then go for a hour shopping in the outlet beside it.
- Continue driving to Downtown Seattle.
- Go to Space needle, and the whatever science world kinda thing beside it. spend an hour there is enough. take some photos.... then drive again.
- Park somewhere RIGHT in downtown parkage. Then just go around the malls, and then head down to the "Original Starbucks" though nothing much to see.. but well..1st shop though.
- spend sometime in the market there. Probably when you feel tired, it is around 6 something already.
- go for dinner at the pier. recommend this one: http://www.pier57seattle.com/restaurants.html fun!
- and then pick up your car, drive around.
- Headback.. Stop by Bellevue. Get some dessert at cheesecake factory.
- Continue drive back, just b4 crossing border, go to Bliane. fill up some gas, and take some pee.
- You just go there for one day, so remember, you have NO exemption for anything you buy.
- When crossing border, just tell them sight seeing, tell them the total amount everyone buy from US. u should be fine. remember, "SMILE"!!!
if you just go there shop and sight seeing, yes.. those are the usual questions.
However, if you go there for business, OMG, US custom question you like crazy.
I went to Seattle for a conference few months ago. And the custom kept asking me question, and ask for conference receipt, details. and ask me if I'm going to share any technology and if I'm a speaker.. blah blah blah.
It is so annoying.
and there were many times when I went to Vegas, the custom ask me what I'm doing there. Of course, I politely answered "Have some fun, shopping and watching show". but .. Vegas,.. Really?? he had to ask me what i'm gonna do there? I really want to say " Really? "
Yeah, they asked nonsense questions sometime. They asked where I work, the colour of my car and once they even asked me about my winter tires. In a way I think they are looking at my reaction rather than my answers.
yes I joined CAA. And yes it's useful...but I think some credit card company also cover that? Or some car warranty also includes this kind of insurance.
so, cySugar, what is your final decision? still one day trip or few more days?
If you can, I think you should spend a long weekend with your parents. It will be a good memorable vacation.
