Peter seems to be closer to the truth this time. Seems very little if any evidence, probably just witness of the police. A good lawyer can easily shatter the police's words. At least it will be tough to proof concretely in court that every single one of the 13 vehicles had clear wrong-doings. A lot of it is just 'bling car + kids is a sin in itself' type of mentality, which in a way is just wrong. They have rich parents, that's not a sin. Given the opportunity many people would do it themselves (get a bling car) esp if at that same age.

Supt. Norm Gaumont, RCMP officer in charge of traffic enforcement for the Lower Mainland, said their penalty would have been much stiffer had they been caught on video, radar, or if a police officer had seen them racing.

"I know there's a lot of disappointment, wondering why we only charged them with an offence of $196. They fact of the matter is, we have to look at all the evidence we have and what we're able to prove," he said. "That's why we've charged them with driving without due consideration for the public."

That said, I am not condoning doing stupid things on the road. I am usually one of, if not THE slowest driver on the road LOL... (gas cost is friggin too much for me....).

Tweeting and checking Facebook messages on a phone are quite addictive to many kids these days.

I think the #1 problem here is the N license and doing such speed while going in/out traffic.
Otherwise, I have to say that driving my C4S at above 160km is actually a lot safer than gong at 100km with my older lifted Jeep Grand Cherokee when there isn't anything traffic on the road.

For those who have not driven a high performance car, it's hard to imagines how good these car handle at speed.

Just don't tell me the BS that it is unsafe to drive at 100mph while there is no traffic around on the highway, when truck towing a boat going at 70mph is safe.

I know if's not possible to define the our highway on what speed to go base on type of cars and tires, etc.., but they should build a race track that's closer to home.  That way, they will do their gathering on the track rather than our street.

We all do stupid things when we are young.  We promote safe sex to teens (Condom), instead of putting them in jails, then they should promote safe driving on the track by providing the resource.

PS: I usually go 10mph above the posted highway speed when it is safe to do so, but then I kept myself under control a lot better because I am 3x.

Other things I like to mention.
We have always been told by the media/pubic that speeding kills.  The one thing you don't know is that many fatal car accidents involve not on ly speeding but DUI.  It's the combination of the 2.  Do you own Google search for more details.
Another problem we have these days is cell phone + other type distractions.  I pay a lot of attention to my surrounding and the drivers around me.  This help me avoid bad drivers on the roads, which is essentially defensive driving which we should all practice daily if we value our life.

FY, what makes you think people are picking on these young idiots b/c they are Chinese immigrants? Are you so insecure about your own ethnicity that you feel like you're victimized all the time? For all I care, I don't give a shxt if they are Chinese immigrants or not. I would have said a lot of the same thing if the idiot kids belonged to a different ethnic group. Anyone doing 200km+ on public road is stupid and a hazard to other road users.

Chobit is quite correct that high speed in itself is not necessarily a dangerous thing. But the biggest problem is, there were clearly other road users on the road at the time when these idiots were pulling their stupid stunts. The most dangerous thing with street racing is that there are other cars driving along at drastically different speeds, where drivers with vastly different levels of skills are present. If an accident occurs, it can easily get other innocent people involved. The streets and the highway also don't have tire walls and run off areas to help decelerate the car should anything happen to them. A median / barrier / lamp post does not cushion a car the same way as those safety installations.

Again, they are being picked on not solely because they are Chinese immigrants. More because of the price of the car, and rich jealousy. Crazy rich Chinese immigrants whose at the root of driving out local home buyers is even easier to target and exaggerate when any fault at all is found. Media and public attenttion will definately be different if these are not rich chinese immigrants, but white kids in beaters going 200km which is actually more dangerous.

All kinds of kids abuse their driving rights. I bet you (a penny LOL) half the male drivers here, and maybe a quarter of female drivers here, have had went 100% above the speed limit at one point in their youthful years. Driving 200k on the hwy is basically that, and they have probably some of the safest car money can buy to carry this speed.
