L plate ??

NO NEED ..  not for NEW user at all ..

I have 2 ..  I DON'T use them now at all ..  $250 a piece ..  but added weight ...   bluh bluh bluh ..

Only goood thing about those RRS plate ..  is scratch resist .. lol

After the RRS plate, you need to buy a nice ball head ..  etc ..  ( say another $200 )  and then tripod ..  another $300 ..   so ..  like $800 EXTRA stuff ...  which is basically useless for you ....  

get a camera, play it with kit lens, and a 50mm prime lens first, then add flash ...  tripod ..  filter or not on kit lens, doesn't matter ..   

After you play the DSLR for a little while .. if you find yourself really into it, then sit down, and think about, are you more into the "HOTO"graphy part ..  or photoSHOP part ..   then go to take a course or buy some book to read and learn ..  ( dont just go forum and learn from those C hing .. )   

If you find yourself are into the PHOTOgraphy part, then you can start to spend more money on gears....  

Or we can suggest you to buy all the fancy gears now, then after a while, you get bored .. then sell to us cheap ..  lol

我想信我會比較多啲喺PHOTO 嗰邊… 用PHOTOSHOP 基本較相或者幾好用，但係用PHOTOSHOP 大改啲相就唔係咁啱我。
而家我個相機初步「購物清單」大概如下(依次序)…

- 相機連鏡頭
- EXTEND WARRANTY (總共三年)
- LENS FILTER
- 16GB CF CARD
- 相機袋
- 閃燈
- 三腳架

WARRANTY 真係冇用？聽講CANON 而家啲QC 一般咋喎…
相機可能冇事，但係支鏡頭可能會出事。話個什麼USM 摩打定係個變焦環最有可能發生問題。
我都係聽架咋…我對呢啲野一向冇研究。
有咩唔啱既，請各位影相前輩大哥多多照住，多多包涵…

I say skip the warranty too, its just a way to get your money. what Catpiano say is right, just play with the camera first then as u are more into it, then u will know what u need, get a 50mm prime for low light and protraits, either the 50mm f/1.4 USM or the 50mm f/1.8 mark II are both good for its value.  If you want to get flash I personally like Metz more over Canon flash, I think Metz detect color tempeture better then Canon, and I think their reload time is a lot faster too.

而家啲閃燈幾乎都係全自動…唔係廠燈會唔會有啲咩FUNCTION 用唔倒而要用手動？

icic.. Arcatech makes one of the best ballhead out there, and I have always wanna to get one if I get a heavy duty lens such as 300 f/2.8 or something larger, but still haven't purchase one yet =D

Mirror locks is a must either u use timer, cable release or remote.  Just that personally I like cable release more, and i think its handy for bulb mode too.
I use Arcatech V2 ballhead, Gitzo GT-154 ...

This is just my opinions.  I would go for an independent personal article insurance which includes insure you dropping your lens into the water.  And they can be indepentant from your regular home insurance.

So far, with all the lenses I have.  I have only had 1 problem that's cause by the IS on my 300 f/4 lens

50mm x 1.6 = 80mm
31.25mm x 1.6 = 50mm

which focal length is the prime lens for DSLR (non-fullframe)?
