Kreations on Cambie does those specialty cakes, just give her the picture. The pastry chef is japanese and if you taste and figure out the cakes a bit too sweet, u can tell her and she can reduce sugar.
Ganache is only okay to me because sometimes their combination is kinda weird. They add too much flavours in one cake and I don't taste them most of the time, kinda blend.
I like Thomas Haas, their chocolates are also pretty good!
Well...there's no pastry shop I find is perfect for every kinds of cake. I actually go to each one for a particular kind I like.
I ordered from Thomas Haas. I told them I wanted a white chocolate cake and they suggested the princess cake. I could not find any info of their cake online so I said okay.
When I went to pick it up, the shop was filled with people. Their long lineup people waiting to take order was amazing. Their coffee smelled good. I finally got my cake and it was inside a nice box.
My wife and I tried it last night after all the happy birthday celebration. The design of the cake was okay. The top layer was some kind of berries. It was a cheese cake with white chocolate sprinkling outside. It was not really what I had in mind. I was hoping it was a white chocolate cake like I would find in TnT. Nevertheless, the cake itself tasted good. It was not too sweet like all the other cheese cake I had try before.

Interesting! Try their real chocolate dessert next time. ^_^
A picture of their extra dark hot chocolate for you and your wife:

I guess choice of chocolate depends on what you like. (e.g. I love caramel and sea salt chocolate, dark chocolate, things with dark rum...etc)
You can order a few pieces and try it out there. Then pick your own box.
Did you see Thomas there? He is now mostly at the Broadway store and his wife (I think she is Chinese) is mostly at their N. Van location.
