There is no death penalty and that's why no waiting period is needed. You are welcome to appeal whenever you have new valid evidence.  BTW, don't you think the waiting period or extending the waiting period unnecessarily is also kinda waste of tax payers' money?
The fact is, money is not the top concern of making laws. If so, no matter you steal a dollar or kill a person, just simply sentence you death la (the cheapest way only needs a rope).

If you were the only witness to prove your family member who was innocent but the court couldn't weight heavily on a closely related person's testimony and gave the death sentence.  Then wouldn't you feel very helpless?

Too many what ifs...not very likely to happen but doesn't mean it won't.
