I cannot make comment on Beijing as I never been to Beijing before but according to mandarin speaking people in Canada, not sure are they from Beijing or not, they are..............................way beyond from the word "uneducated"....
And when I took taxi in 廣州, I remember the driver said good morning to me and chat with me (perhaps it's early in the morning and he wanted to have a good day. Or perhaps, caveman's uncle is 'ling duo' (management) so that he was polite to me"
But when Caveman and I took a taxi to the city center, the mandarin driver made a sharp stop and scream at the driver at the front "lei tai ma dei, you want to die? I will fxxk your mother puxxy , fxxking sh*t" in a very loud voice that I just keep silent and wish to get off from his car ASAP.....

I don't think judging them using our standard is appropriate coz it is their country and they have their own standard. Well, but in Canada, I think those 移民班 should teach them proper manner, but it is not something that can be taught easily, so, like I said, hope their offspring can do better...
China is changing, I am sure it will change to a point that we will proud to tell other people that we are Chinese.
i worked in a restaurant with general public as customer base...
but i see more and more mainland customers coming in now...
its so weird...they come in...and 8/10 of them expects to have someone speak mandarin to them and explain the menu...it kind of makes you feel that...o mandarin ppl have the greatest population and we have money now...u should have somone speak mandarin to us
they would talk mandarin to my coworker...whom is white...n ask him stuff...
I came here 20 years ago. At that time, not many chinese here but mainly chinese came from old generation of china and hong kong. I never experience those things before.
Over the years, more and more hong konger and taiwnese came to Vancouver and thoese things never happened neither.
However, in the last few years, more mainland chinese people came and those things started to emerge.
I have been to shanghai once and there was no order at all. There was no line up in front of the gate even for the same tour bus people. When the gate to an attraction opened, people just rushed in.
Mainlanders are very protective of their pride. Any negative comment regardless if true or false, are intolerable crimes. It's ok for them to speak bad of themselves, make jokes of their shortcomings, but it's not okay for anybody else to do the same.

i agree, I have been living in Vancouver for about 20 years, and people (Chinese, White, Black, whatever) used to be very polite, now they are getting more and more impolite, like getting on a bridge, before they will be one-by-one, now they all just rush in. I think it's the general education of people, they think you are dumb for lining up or something, just push through and I will get through faster!
And another thing.......... Why are our bathrooms sooooooooooooooo much dirtier? You go to restaurants (even tiny little moms and pa deli), their bathroom is clean, there is toilet paper all the time.
But you go to a Chinese restaurant... OMG!! First of all, they START out quite dirty, the restaurant owners use it as a storage, they NEVER clean it, it always smells.... It doesn't have to be a Hong Kong style restaurant or Mandarin speaking restaurant or Japanese (run by chinese), it's the SAME THING
What is it with Chinese people and bathroom things???? We can't control ourselves? We can't clean up after ourselves?
