It seems that there are some differences regarding the oil change schedule between Japanese car and European car. My car is "supposed" to service in 15K or once a year. Is it just design difference? Would it be better to change the oil more frequently (as it gets older)? I drove highway most of the time and about 30K per weekday. Thanks!

想問下年份,款式同宜家既里數係幾多呀fibbi? 你返放工時間係against traffic﹖車程大約係幾耐﹖

Fabbi, Even those LONG INTERVAL service car, the service indicator is not just based on distance, but how you drive ...

My car is 2008 w204. to/from work are both against traffic. time is around 15 minutes one trip (1 trip is about 13K). Now 10K la...I think now the indicator will prompt me for service once a year or every 15K. But my old W202...prompts me for service almost once every 2 years. Same "driving" habit wor... I am thinking I could have done a bit better to my old car so I can be kept longer. So now, I don't want to repeat any "mistake" (if there was any) as I did before. Hope this car can be driven as long as it can.

fibbi .. no worry ..  say you put ~ 15,000 km a yr ..  for W204 ..  you have oil service for your car once a year is more then enough ga la...

It is weird if your W202 only need service every 2 yr??  unless you put less then 10k/yr back then??

Or 6 cyc  now, and 4 cyc back then??

Put it this way, it is a BENZ .. even you can keep the engine in good shape ..  but will you keep the car for 20 year, and put 300,000 km on it?
bi
Even you will keep the car for that long, and even the V6 engine can last that long, but those electronic on C class, for sure won't last that long anyway ..  say may be in 5-6 yr .. will start having electronic problem ..  and will start costing big money to fix ...  ( ~ $150/hr plus )

Unlike yours is the 6.2L ...  then it is a different story ..

Both old and new cars are 6 cylinder. My old car had lots of problems ... The transmission suddenly got stuck @ a gear that speed can't go high on the highway! I was so scared ar!  At the 8th or 9th year the catalyst converter is broken. And I don't even drive fast or aggressive. And no accident wor... (scratch the side..but not even bumper to bumper thing or anything...). And it's not gas efficient as I mentioned before...I hope the new one would be better. So far it's doing good.

Like I said, the engineers designed the car so that the stock rad is good enough for most people in most situations.  If you have special needs (racing, towing, etc), then go buy/mod whatever you need.  Bigger rad for sure cools better than smaller ones but the point is do you really need it.  With just a scanner, how do you know the efficiency of your rad?  You measured the temperature from the inlet and outlet hose to determine the temp difference?  I haven't played with a late model scanner but older ones will just give me coolant temperature and if your cooling system is working correctly, that temperature shouldn't fluctuate too much after the engine reached its operating temperature.  So what do you mean when you said "睇個scan gauge出黎既reading我部fit 已經efficient好多"?

Fibbi,

That is the way a BENZ is ..  to be fair, they are a bit better now, but those BENZ from late 90's to couple years ago ..  are not that great ..

So, even you keep changing oil or coolant 5 times more then BENZ suggests .. something else will break ...

Cross the finger ...   but on German car, just can't skip the service.

If you are not a "driver type" of person, then W204 is as good/better then E90.
