The application to run a weekend night market next to the Starlight Casino between May 21 and Oct. 11 has been formally withdrawn, which may come as a surprise to many of the vendors who shelled out $1,000 deposits to set up shop there.

"I can confirm that we've received notice from Starlight Casino that they are withdrawing their application for a temporary use permit," said Bev Grieve of the city planning department on Friday (April 16).

The vendors cannot be at the 2 night markets at the same time,
usually family operated, cannot afford to hire staffs for 64 evening
