It's a nice & easy way to take advantage of the system, haha... lesbian doesn't need to show proof (unable to prove someone is a lesbian, right?), 2 girls can live together and both claim mat leave, haha... then don't need to go back to school to finish her 1 yr contract...  after working for a few months, then disclosing herself is a lesbian, she's done! how good it is ... she is setting a good example for other lazy bones to follow

but what about our budget? I heard school district has a huge deficit? CANADA!!!

she said "但她害怕公開指摘學校後會受到報復而喪失這些工資", what is she trying to say? she still want to get paid but critize the school, she wants to be win-win? how greedy!!!

   【明報專訊】一名溫哥華女教師因為其同性配偶產子而申請家長假後，卻不能回校任教。她指摘溫哥華天主教學校Little Flower Academy歧視。學校方面則說薪水照付，不能算是解僱。

位於溫哥華西區的私立天主教學校Little Flower Academy是一間女校，成績一直名列前茅，甚受華裔家長歡迎，是華人喜歡送女兒入讀的「西區名校」。事主賴默(Lisa Reimer，圖)則在校內教授音樂。

賴默的配偶也是女性，最近誕下嬰兒，賴默因而申請家長假，照顧伴侶及新生嬰兒，但學校卻通知她不用再到學校授課。

賴默通過「尊嚴教育網絡」(Pride Education Network)作出投訴。她聲言學校受到家長的壓力，她的性取向引起家長關注。不少家長知道賴默申請家長假，而且她的配偶也是女人之後，作出投訴。家長擔憂女校中的學生也會仿效教師的行為。

賴默同性配偶的預產期是今年春季，賴默說在去年12月便提出要申請家長假，但學校沒有提供家長假，而是告知她可以取用儲存的15天病假。三個星期前嬰兒誕生，賴默開始請假。原本周一便要復工，但在周一，學校校長及副校長與她見面，在祝賀她配偶誕下兒子之後，又通知她由即日開始到六月底，均不用到學校，也不能直接接觸學生。賴默的一年合約在6月底結束。

賴默昨日向媒體表示，學校對她的工作表現沒有投訴。她在數月前已經告訴學校她是女同性戀者，但一直相安無事，直到她申請家長假後，情況才完全改變。

校方稱未解僱 薪水照付至6月

她的感覺是自己的人格受到貶損，雖然學校答應支付工資直至6月底，但她害怕公開指摘學校後會受到報復而喪失這些工資。

賴默指出學校這樣做，為學生立下壞榜樣，教導學生可以歧視別人，導致『同性戀恐懼』(homophobic)。

學校昨日下午發表簡短聲明，否認賴默被解僱，因為其薪水照付直至6月底，但聲明沒有明確指出賴默是否繼續授課。

雖然Little Flower Academy是私校，但同時得到省府補助。一些教師團體已要求省府介入。省教育廳長麥雅雯(Margaret MacDiarmid)昨日回應，會先弄清事情的來龍去脈，才能做出判斷，是否採取任何行動。她又說，假若出現歧視情況，事主可以通過很多途徑申訴。

賴默表示，正考慮進一步申訴行動，包括法律行動。

What you talking about ? you don't have to be a lesbian to take mat leave. If a wife is carrying a baby, the hubby can also take mat leave.

If you signed a contract, don't you expect the compensation when the other party breaks the contract?

nobody is breaking cotnract, she said she got paid until contract ends, she just not allowed to go back to work.

FYI, common-law partner doesn't need a marriage certificate.
