VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - Heavily armed officers have been combing a UBC building floor by floor and escorting people out of the building after a threat was sent to the university.
The Biological Sciences building at UBC was locked down and surrounded by police. There are reports the Emergency Response Team entered the building, but so far police have revealed few details about the incident. Hundreds of students are still milling around outside the building, waiting for news, and the 'all-clear'.
All classes in the Bio Sciences Building (located at the intersection of Main Mall and University Boulevard) have now been cancelled for the balance of the day. UBC says the rest of the Point Grey campus has resumed normal activities.
There are unconfirmed reports that police are responding to a threat that was sent by email. Many students were immediately told to leave the building, and some witnesses reported seeing police SWAT teams entering the building with their guns drawn. A police helicopter is flying over the area.
RCMP cordoned off the building with yellow police tape just before 2 pm. Stay tuned to News1130 for more details.
