It is very difficult to be Non-Partisan Hired Belly.
All the  event are sponsored by the restaurants,
and the organizer are the media collecting advertising fee.
Hardly any restaurant that does not advertise would win
any award.
In order to evaluate a restaurant, the "Undercover" agent
has to visit the restaurant 3 times and order the same dishes
to ensure the consistency and quality. This is just to qualify one
restaurant.  Who would have the budget to do so?
I was asked to act as a Hired Belly for some organizations, they
would allot $100 per meal expense. just what can you order for
under $100 (variety of dishes plus beverage), and you have to
pay for your guests to cover you. Well, maybe someone would
do it for fun.

it is a "promotional article" though.  Go try them and judge for yourself.  Of course we "chinese foodies" gotta apply our common sense as to how to avoid being 呃秤 and how to take advertisements with a critical attitude.  i'm sure you could manage that well if you are really into food.

Just to clarify, Chinese Restaurant Awards have strict rule and absolutely do not accept any sponsorship from restaurants. That means "No restaurants can buy the awards". This award project is very different from the events you are talking about. If you have any question, you can always email to [email protected]

Sorry to know that you exclude some good restaurants in vancouver.
They are full house every weekend as usual
