Sears Card admin. fee

This is non-sense.

I have a Sears Card which has some credits in it.  I haven't used the card for 12 months and they start to charge me $25 a year admin. fee because of the credit money.

I called them and they said this is stated in the card agreements.  If my balance is 0, they won't charge me anything.  However, if I let money sitting in the account and don't use it, they will charge me admin. fee after 12 months.

I said to them this is nonsense.  If I own them money, they can charge me interests.  If I leave money in their account, they should not charge me anything giving this is a no fee credit card.  I also asked them to justify what did they do to ADMIN. my credit in the 12 months.  Then, I told them if they don't waive the fee, I will take it to Better Business Bureau.

Then, he gave in and waive the fee.  But he still says I have to use the credit in the next 12 months.

Bad business practice.

Same as to the Starbucks card

Can you ask them to mail you a chq on the credit?  Cuz I have a credit with my Visa, and they keep mailing me statements, even after I canceled the card.  So finally I call and ask them to mail me a chq of $3.01 for the remaining credit.  But not sure if Sears card are same as credit card's agreement or not.

I believe he is talking about Sears mastercard rather than Sears giftcard. A credit card charges admin fee for credit balance sounds new to me, another way for credit card company to make money.

Yeah, my Visa didn't charge me admin fee for having a credit balance $3.01 for over 2 years, but I just finally felt annoyed of receiving their statements, so I call and ask them to mail me a chq.  But i didn't know credit card charge admin fees too.

It is the Sears credit card.  Not the gift card nor the Starbuck cash card.  Similar to VISA or MasterCard but you can only use it in Sears and collect points.

"Tapioca" is right, it is like credit card company charging admin fee to a no fee credit card because there is credit balance and the card hasn't been used for 12 month.  Otherwise, I won't be that 勞氣

They can return the credit to me by cheque but they don't tell people you have this option.

Admin fee like that on a no fee card is non sense!

Thank you for sharing the info.

Just be careful when asking for a cheque from a Credit Card company....  CC company may consider that as a cash advance, even thought you have a credit balance.  Make sure you confirm with them on the fee.  In cremedelacreme's case they might have sent him a CQ and close the account.
