Push to ensure rapid transit to UBC, not Surrey

Push to ensure rapid transit to UBC, not Surrey
Report prioritizes a line for a booming community, not the school

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - Those jam-packed B-Line buses won't be any less crowded in the near future.  Top priorities for TransLink are changing and some bus riders aren't very happy about it.

This comes out of a draft report from Metro Vancouver that prioritizes rapid transit expansion into the Tri-Cities first, then Surrey and then out to UBC.

The Alma Mater Society of the university tells the Vancouver Sun the school and its surrounding community should have priority over Surrey.  It says 4,000 students are passed daily by packed B-Line buses.

Many riders News1130 spoke with along that route say the demand for a train to UBC is strong.

Metro Vancouver's draft growth strategy points to Surrey as the region expected to boom over the next 30 years and that's why rapid transit is needed there to help shape that development

It makes more sense to transit to connect surrey to DT Vancouver.  As alot more people can't afford House prices in Vancouver.

As to UBC, it should have more students living on Campus.  Campus life is more vibrant than living with mom and dad.  Although it is free rent + free food, for many, it is the only chance to be "on your own" to grow and learn.  Pretty soon, grad will be married and have kids, then you will have a lot less freedom.

they have babies a lot sooner well before they graduate

sure, no problem.
there will be lots of "discussions", which will take about 5 years to make the majority people agree, then they will spend 3+ year to plan/design, 3 more years to deal with the complains and disagreement about how the routes would destroy the environment, business environment and,,,,,,,,,the EARTH!!!! 2-3 years to build the track
then after X (u do the math) years,  maybe our children can use it. how nice

People living in Vancouver West side won't allow a skytrain near their expensive houses.

No ar, the bike route on Hornby started a few days before it was approved.  Sometime things happen really fast.

While I agree there's an "demand" for UBC rapid transit....I think the one from Surrey or tri-city to downtown should be more prioritize..It serves not just the students but general public...

As for the bike lane...seriously...how many months we can ride a bike in Van? The most is half a year...Who want to ride a bike in rainy day like TODAY? What a waste...
Bike lane is good as long as it doesn't take away the car and parking lanes...

TOP

that means ubc has rapid transit?
