Be the first to Comment  0 Recommendation(s) VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - An apartment building in East Vancouver has gone up in flames. It's a wood-frame building near Hastings street and Commercial Drive.

The smoke is incredibly thick in the area, making it difficult to breathe, or even see through it. We can even smell the smoke outside our studios at Ash and Broadway.

We spoke with a man who believes the fire started in his suite, but he doesn't know where or why. "I took down all of my Christmas decorations on Sunday. I have no idea where it could have happened. I never leave anything on."

Another woman tells us the building is very poorly maintained. She says there are no sprinklers in her suite.

There's no official word on any injuries yet. But witnesses say they saw firefighters take a man out of the building through the third floor balcony.
