Grammy Awards wrap up in Los Angeles
Red hot Justin Bieber misses out in both nominations

0    LOS ANGELES (NEWS1130) - The 53rd Grammy Awards ceremony was full of surprises, the biggest of which was a relatively unknown artist beating pop sensation Justin Bieber in the best new artist category.

Canadians Justin Bieber and Drake were both left behind by jazz artist Esperanza Spalding. The 26-year-old Portland native was considered a long shot in the category, which also included Mumford & Sons and Florence & the Machine.

The 16-year-old Bieber lost out in both of his categories, but still took centre stage for a performance with Usher and Jaden Smith.

Toronto-born rock legend Neil Young took home his first-ever Grammy for music, winning best rock song for "Angry World.''

Canadian rockers Arcade Fire pulled off a Grammy shocker, winning the album of the year trophy for "The Suburbs.'' The band thanked their home city of Montreal before taking the stage to close out the show. Arcade Fire was nominated for three Grammys overall, but lost their two other bids.

Eminem took best rap album with "Recovery."
