Cyclist killed on Highway One near Chilliwack

0 CHILLIWACK (NEWS1130) - A fatal crash has Highway One closed this morning near Chilliwack. A cyclist was hit by a van traveling west near the Evans Road Overpass around 2:30 a.m.
Sergeant Peter Thiessen says the cyclist was thrown from his bike and died at the scene. He hasn't been identified, but he is believed to be from Chilliwack.
The driver of the van is a 58-year-old from Chilliwack. The driver was not hurt, and is apparently co-operating with police.
Police say speed, weather, and road conditions were not factors in the crash. Alcohol also wasn't a factor for the driver of the van, but it hasn't yet been ruled out on the part of the cyclist.
Any witnesses are asked to call the police. The highway is closed westbound from Vedder Road to Lickman Road until further notice. A detour is in effect.
