Members choose location for Komagat Maru monument and vote to spend $30,000 on showers for the homeless

2 VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - The Vancouver Park Board's agenda for Monday night included a new monument to commemorate the 1914 Komagata Maru incident as well as more showers for the homeless.
The final design for the monument will take a few months yet, but the location has been decided. Chair Aaron Jasper says it will be in Harbour Green Park, in the city's Coal Harbour neighbourhood. "There will be a bit of the story which will be etched on the main body of the sculpture. It would actually resemble a portion of a rusted hull." The monument will sit in a flower garden on the eastern edge of the park.
Jasper also says the board has decided to spend up to $30,000 on three new locations for showers that can be accessed by the homeless. "Our staff feels that they will be able to come back to us with recommendations for our consideration at the beginning of April." |
