1    SURREY (NEWS1130) - A man has been shot to death by Mounties at Crescent Beach in South Surrey. Vancouver Police are now investigating.

Details of exactly what happened are still unclear. RCMP Sergeant Peter Thiessen says just after 2 p.m., three Mounties were called to a home on McBride Avenue near Gilley Street in Crescent Beach because of an emergency 9-11 call.

"They were then confronted by an adult male," he explains. "As a result of that confrontation... shots were fired. [The man] is deceased as a result of those gunshot wounds."

Thiessen won't say who shot first and is deferring other questions to Vancouver Police.

A man who claims to know one of the women who was in the spanish-style house says it was a fight between the young woman and an armed ex-boyfriend that led to the shooting, and he is now dead.

Friends of the victim have appeared in the neighbourhood, talked to police, and broke down in tears.
