Layoffs at Vancouver School Board
Some head office positions will be cut

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - News1130 has learned there have been several layoffs in the communications division at the Vancouver School Board.

While she can't go into details, Board Chair Patti Bacchus will confirm the cuts are at the head office. "These are going to be very difficult operationally to continue without some of these positions, but it's a very difficult financial environment that we are in."

Bacchus says they're expecting to be grappling with about an eight-million dollar budget shortfall in the coming school year. She says it would be difficult to find that money without further staff reductions.
