Booze from the US - declare them!

We all know that alcohol is cheaper in US than in Canada. Often times you can buy a 1.5L of wine for the price of 750mL size in Canada. Especially the ones imported, the price differences are even higher.

In the past, I never declare any alcohol that I brought back from my monthly shopping trip. I have never been questioned... but the fact is that we do not get tax examption within 24 hours.

My gf and I went to Point Robert for gas, and we picked up a bottle of Austrlian wine for $10 in the super market. As we crossed the border, the officer asked if we have anything other than gas, I told the officer we have a bottle of wine. The first thing he asked was - how much and what size. $10 for a 750mL! he sent us on our merry way...

I have seen way too many people picked up a 6 pack of beer at the gas station and I guess it is very common that the customs do not care as long as the amount is "reasonable" for personal consumption. I also think that if the custom really has to tax us... it still doesn't worth his time to tax $5 out of a $10 bottle wine...

Yes.. the super market in Point Roberts has a lot of good domestic wine for under $10...

For $10, even if they tax you 100%, the collected tax is less than their processing labour cost.

It isn't the matter of how much...  it is the matter of how's his/her mood that day.

yeah usually if you declare and they feel it is reasonable..they wont really do anything
I miss you...

48hrs+, you can bring home 1.14Litre worth of hard liquor.

from some international airport duty-free, all you can get is 1Litre, not the standard 1.14L.
