I personally don’t think it is a serious problem that can be called – “藐視文化歷史有辱國體”.
In fact, I would support the historic heritages should be 有嚴格監管地進行合理地商業開發 to extend their life. That is why we see some historic buildings in western countries become famous hotels or restaurants.
In addition, I had been to most of these restaurants being mentioned in the article such as 頤和園聽鸝館飯莊, 北海仿膳飯莊和李蓮英故居 (I forgot the name of the restaurant). Honestly speaking, not many people would bother to take a look on those buildings if they were not converted to restaurants and they would probably become 危房 since the government won’t spend as much money to upkeep them compare to other more important historic sites and buildings.
After being converted to commercial use, they were kept in pretty good shapes. What should be done now is that the government should establish strict regulations to prohibit any physical damage to the buildings. Other than that, I think it is a good idea and working fine. |
