VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - The Canucks' run through the Stanley Cup Final could cost Vancouver taxpayers well over $1 million. But business advocates call it money well spent.

City staff estimate if the Canucks go to seven games, it could cost an extra $680,000 for all of the live sites and police and firefighter work. That's on top of other VPD costs, pegged at almost $650,000.

Meanwhile, Charles Gauthier with the Downtown Vancouver Business Improvement Association says they estimate a lot of money has rolled in. "Two million [dollars] per game, and that's been since Round 1."

"Certainly, the expenses to the city have gone up as a result of Round 4," he concedes. "But the downtown economy has benefited ever since we've been in the playoffs."

Gauthier compares the run for the cup to the Olympics, with visitors spending cash mostly on food and drinks
