SURREY (NEWS1130) - Even though both Highway 1 and Highway 7 have been re-opened, there are still major back-ups.
"We were on the Coquitlam side and we had to run like hell to get away from it," says Kirk who was with his fiancee when the towers collapsed around 8:30 p.m. Monday.
Dave watched it all happen. "I was in a tower crane on the Port Mann Bridge and one of them collapsed on the river and one of them collapsed on the hill on the south side. We saw the splash and the [power] lines were in the river."
Other people tell us the crash and collapse of the towers sounded like fireworks. The downed lines were just steps away from homes in the area.
