BC deploys nearly 100 firefighters to Ontario

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - It's been a slow wildfire season in BC, but there's still a lot of work for fire crews.
Provincial Fire Information Officer Fiona Tollovsen says nearly 100 men and women are heading east.
"The province of Ontario sent a request to all over Canada, and BC, with the current fire situation we are seeing, was able to fill that request with 93 personnel," she says.
The initial deployment is for 19 days but BC will consider any request by Ontario to extend the firefighters' stay, or send more crews.
"We'd be willing to look at that, depending again on the situation in BC," he says.
The firefighters can be called back to BC at any time if the fire situation here takes a sudden turn for the worse.
The deployment does not cost BC anything - Ontario is picking up the full tab. |
