VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - The Champlain Heights area of Vancouver may be best known for its quiet, tree-lined streets and open parks, but today people in the neighbourhood are waking up to a crime scene.

Police are investigating a fatal shooting at Arlington Street and Whithorn Crescent.  It happened just after 10 a.m. on Monday.  Several callers to 911 reported hearing what sounded like several people fighting and then multiple gunshots.

When officers got there they found an injured man in his early 20s, he was rushed to hospital but died.

Ranna lives in the neighbourhood and was watching TV when she thought she heard firecrackers outside.  "We heard about three shots fired and when we came outside there were already cops there so I think they maybe were expecting it."

"I'm just concerned for my neighbour's kid because I pretty much know everybody in the area.  It's just kind of scary," says another woman.

Despite an extensive search of the area, no suspects have been arrested.  The victim's identity has not been released.

The VPD are appealing to the public for more information.  If you know anything you are asked to call the Vancouver Police Homicide Unit at 604.717.2500 or Crimestoppers at 1.800.222.8477.
