NEW WESTMINSTER (NEWS1130) - It was a busy night for police across the Lower Mainland. A New Westminster Police officer was slashed with a knife as he was trying to help a man seen in distress at 6th Street and McBride Boulevard.
"My understanding is that that person confronted him with a knife and as a result of that confrontation he sustained, what we believe, are minor injuries to his face," says Sergeant Mike Garbutt.
Police are still looking for the suspect who is described as a black man, 25 to 30 years old, 6'4" tall, 250 lbs., brown eyes, with a muscular build and black hair. He was wearing forest green and black camouflage cargo pants, white socks, white Nike's with a dark-coloured "swoosh."
If you have any information about the assault, you are asked to call New Westminster Police tip-line at 604.529.2430.
Meantime, a taxi driver in Surrey is recovering after being stabbed in the hand. He was attacked early this morning on 104th Avenue and Whalley Boulevard.
Sergeant Bruce Anderson explains the motive for the attack appears to be robbery. "The suspect made away with a small amount of cash and no arrests have been made."
The driver was also hit in the neck, but both injuries are considered minor. |
