0 VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - A warning to women in Vancouver after a frightening attack near Joyce Station just after midnight on Thursday.

VPD Constable Jana McGuinness says the attack, which appears to be random, happened as a 24-year-old woman was walking home. "She realized she was being followed and the person was coming up quite quickly and gaining on her."

The man grabbed her and threatened her with a knife. "She screamed and fought him and he took off running, but very alarming.  It looks like it was a stranger attack and we don't know if it was perhaps motivated by robbery or even sexual assault."

McGuinness says police aren't sure if this attack is connected to any others but they didn't want to waste any time getting word out. "We can't wait on anything like this when we find through our investigation an incident that appears to be quite random."
The woman was not hurt.

The suspect is described as white, about 5'7", with a slim build. He was last seen in dark clothing near Boundary Road.

If you have information please call the Vancouver Police Sex Crimes Unit at 604-717-2634 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
