Canadian jobless rate slips to 7.2 per cent in July
A net 7,100 jobs created

OTTAWA (NEWS1130) - Canada's unemployment rate fell to 7.2 per cent in July, as the economy created a net 7,100 jobs during the month.
Statistics Canada says increases in the private sector were offset by losses in the public sector and fewer people who were self employed.
The gains were led by the construction sector, which saw an increase of 31,000 jobs. Employment in the transportation and warehousing sector was up 28,000 jobs, and there were also 28,000 more people working in retail and wholesale trade in July.
There were fewer jobs in health care and social assistance, elementary and secondary schools, business, building and other support services, natural resources, and agriculture.
Employers in the US added 117,000 jobs last month, pushing the unemployment rate down a notch to 9.1 per cent. That may quiet fears of another US recession after massive losses on world stock markets |
