0 MOUNT VERNON, WA (NEWS1130) - Four family members from Surrey, including a three-month-old baby, were involved in a rollover crash on the Interstate-5 near Mount Vernon Thursday.

When police got to the scene around 11 a.m., the boy had been thrown from his car seat and was lying on the ground. He was airlifted to the hospital with serious head injuries.

State Trooper Keith Leary tells KOMO News in Seattle it's unclear from speaking with the 27-year-old mother if the three-month-old was properly secured in his car seat.

"She wouldn't tell us if the child was actually out of the child seat, but she did say she was rocking the infant," he says. "If it was in a properly secured child seat, you shouldn't be able to rock your child while it's in the car."

Leary says the mother may have been distracted by one her kids before she slammed into the concrete barrier.

"One of her children was crying, whether it was the infant, we weren't sure," he explains. "But she went off to the right side of the road initially. Hit the rumble strip, which startled her. She overcorrected back onto the road, then left the road off to the left side."

The mother hurt her head and arm. Her 6 and 7-year-old daughters were taken to the hospital with minor injuries but should be okay.

This is a good example on how going to real performance driving school can help.  So that we don't overcorrected our cars.
