Police investigate trafficking of 30 girls from B.C. to U.S. for marriage
More than 30 young girls may have been unlawfully removed from a religious sect in Bountiful, British Columbia, and taken to the United States for the purpose of marriage, according to Mounties.
RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Dan Moskaluk said the girls, between the ages of 12 and 17, are believed to have been transported to the U.S. between the late '90s and 2006.
"RCMP investigators are not aware of any more recent or any ongoing incidents were young girls are currently being victimized," said Moskaluk in a press release.
"The investigation is advancing and the RCMP anticipates sending investigators state side to Texas in the future.”
