Cougar shot near Vancouver Island resort

VICTORIA — Conservation officers were called to Parksville, north of Nanaimo, Saturday after a cougar was spotted near the Park Sands Beach Resort.

Parksville RCMP said the animal was spotted around 9 a.m. in a blackberry bush, where it may have been sleeping.

Conservation officers shot the cougar, while RCMP helped with crowd control.

The area, near the Alberni Highway and Island Highway on Vancouver Island, is highly populated, but no one was injured.



According to reports, a cougar has been shot on Vancouver Island near Parksville, north of Nanaimo.
