UCLUELET (NEWS1130) - The long weekend has been deadly on the west coast of Vancouver Island. Two people have been killed in separate incidents.
The first accident was weather-related. A 24-year-old from the Victoria-area was trying to beat the heat, cliff jumping into a water hole near Ucluelet on Saturday. But something went wrong, he was pulled from the water with critical injuries and died a short time later.
"His friends were sitting on the rocks and he climbed up on one of the higher rocks and then jumped in the water. His friends didn't see him jump but they noticed him a few minutes later, he was in the water and had serious injuries," says Constable Sascha Banks with the Tofino RCMP.
Then early Sunday morning, a 35-year-old man who was born in Richmond was hit by a van while walking along the Pacific Rim Highway near Tofino.
"From what it looks like the pedestrian was walking home with his bike at that point and time." The victim has been identified as Robert Macinnes. |
