NORTH VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - It'll be a sprint for the finish line up Grouse Mountain this weekend.
Sebastian Salas is the defending champion and current record holder of the Grouse Mountain Run.
"You're so focused and concentrated on the steps in front of you," he tells News1130. "This one is harder than any other event that I do, just because it's a big 25-minute effort, just all out and there's no holding back."
Salas is confident he can smash his Grouse Grind record time of 23:48, but this year he's up against some international competition from runners in the US and Europe.
"I'm a little bit nervous, but I guess I have the hometown advantage and I know the mountain really well," he says. "I'm feeling good this year so I think it'll be a fast and furious race.
"It'll definitely be some good competition and we'll be able to see how the local boy stacks up against some of the toughest guys in the world."
Salas says his strategy is simple. "Basically just give it everything you have. And the fittest, fastest runner will win." |
