0 NORTH DELTA (NEWS1130) - He was just standing up for his family; An 80-year-old man who was attacked for stepping into a brawl has died and his family is linking his death to that assault.
Gerald McDonald was repeatedly hit with a baseball bat outside his home in North Delta.
He stepped into a fight between his sons and some neighbours; two weeks later, he died of a heart attack. McDonald's family says he may have been 80, but he was a healthy, vigourous man -- often on his Harley Davidson before the attack. He didn't seem right after it.
No charges have been laid in the case yet. Investigators are waiting for a pathology report before they move ahead.
One investigator in the case says the family can speculate about what charges should be laid, but it will be based on the evidence. RCMP Sergeant Jim Coleman has said as far as he's concerned, the death is not related to the fight. |
