VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - Politicians on both sides of Vancouver's civic divide are speaking out on a new report that finds the city's homeless aren't getting first priority at supportive housing.

Most of the units are going to convicts and addicts instead, according to research being tabled at Vancouver City Hall this Thursday.

It finds the 388 new supportive housing units built in concert between Vancouver and the province, that just over one-third went to actual homeless people, with much of the rest going to those released from medical, addiction, or correctional facilities.

Councillor Kerry Jang tells the Vancouver Sun it's a serious concern, but he points out it's the province's call as to who gets into the supportive housing.

In a statement, NPA Mayoral hopeful Suzanne Anton agrees the homeless should get first priority.  "Over the past three years under Vision Vancouver, homelessness has gone up and housing is less affordable.  While there is no single magic answer to our housing crisis, all agree strong leadership is required to make City Hall part of the solution, not the problem."
