1) University Boulevard at UBC: The story goes that in the 1960s a couple was driving on University Boulevard to the campus library when they got into an argument. The woman got out to walk and was struck dead by a car. To this day, young men report picking up a hitchhiker who hands them a piece of paper with the library’s address on it, then disappears.
2) Mountain View Cemetery: This place feels haunted even on a nice sunny day. Opened in 1887, Mountain View contains 92,000 grave sites and 145,000 sets of interred remains. Among its notable dead are 66 of the 353 people killed in the 1918 sinking of the SS Princess Sophia, the deadliest shipwreck ever on the Pacific Coast of North America. The ship foundered on a reef near Juneau for more than two agonizing days before finally sinking and killing everyone on board.
3) Vogue Theatre: Yes, Granville Street has its own resident ghosts. Two ghouls are said to inhabit the Vogue. One spooks visitors by opening doors in the dressing room area. The other appears in a tuxedo, complete with bow tie, in the seating area.
4) East 22nd Ave., between Main and Quebec Streets: A house on this block of Mt. Pleasant – of all places – was the scene of the grisly 1965 Kosberg axe murders. Young Thomas Kosberg, 17, first poisoned then hacked up his parents and three siblings. There must be some bad vibes around that place.
5) Hotel Vancouver: Referred to as the Lady in Red, the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver‘s ghost haunts the 14th floor, where she hovers through the hallway and occasionally steps out on a window ledge.
