I am not against hybrid nor EV's, but their long term maintenance costs (specifically, on electronics and battery) worries me. Another issue I have with them is cost recovery. You'd have to drive them a lot to recover the cost of the higher purchase price, and EV's need their down time at places where there is charging available.
The most environmentally friendly thing to do is to keep up with proper maintenance on your current car, and keep driving them until they really fall apart. The manufacturing process alone already places a toll on the environment.
There is a reason why the words in the slogan comes in this order: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.
Diesel / biodiesel is an awesome fuel except that exposure to diesel exhaust is linked to increased risks of lung cancer.

1. The type of diesel exhaust that you are thinking about is from old diesel engine, or from heavy equipment. Modern diesel cars in the market now all use ultra-low sulfur diesel (ULSD).
2. Living in urban area, unfortunately, you will be exposed to diesel or gasoline exhaust REGARDLESS what type of car you drive. Exhaust output at the rear, not inside the car.
3. There is "no study provides definitive evidence on its own" diesel exhaust cause cancer. This is from American Cancer Society ... http://www.cancer.org/Cancer/Can ... tion/diesel-exhaust
