HELP: applying for High School best, ask, default, totally, family

So my friend's family is coming back to Van from HK. The parents are Canadian and their daughter was born in HK so she is Canadian by default.  She is 11 and going to finish her elementary school (in HK) this year. What is the best path for her to take if she doesn't want to waste time in repeating? They ask for my help but I am totally clueless. Can anyone help?

going to finish elementary this year, you mean finishing this academic year (2012-2013)?

what do you mean by waste time in repeating? at age 11, the kid should be in grade 6 or grade 7.

for my own case, I came to canada when I was 11 as well. It was March and I had a few more months before I finish grade 6 in HK. I came here and continued my grade 6 education then moved onto grade 7 same year in september.

你朋友的女兒是 "非加拿大出生" 的加籍人, 需要帶齊文件去District Reception and Placement Centre註冊.

我姨甥女兩年前由大陸來land, 都是經由這個程序.
我朋友的兒子, 香港來land咗好多年, 回流, 現再回流, 由於不是土生仔, 都是經同一步驟.

如果報讀明年的9月課, 最好是今年11月-明年1月31日內做.
越早報越好, 太遲的話, 未入有位, 咁就要去間遠小小的.

實際上, 是沒有deadline, 全年都可以報, 因移民全年都有嚟land, 可以插班.

你朋友打算入邊區? 有目標學校嗎?

Actually she will be going to Burnaby, hopefully Burnaby South. I suppose the process will be pretty much same? Is she going to take any assessment test like English? Any further tip for me will be very helpful

噢, Burnaby, 我唔多熟, 比較知多啲係Vancouver 同 Richmond.

只知Burnaby沒有中央處理, 你是根據住址, 找到應去學校, 直接與學校入紙申請. (好似沒有分是否土生)

在Vancouver及Richmond, 你約見申請時, 他們都會問你家中所用語言是否英文, 並借意同小朋友作簡單交談, 如未能應對, 他們可要求assessment. 我朋友中的土生仔, 送回香港由老人家帶到6歲, 因為未能英文交談, 回來入學要讀esl.
